Today's jamming was alright for me

i enjoyed sunday morning, feeling good , time is running out and hysteria the most :)

well,

Ben, Nicole, Dan: you all need to work on your co-ordination for the endings of the songs!, i think we spent quite alot of time just to co-ordinate the last part of the songs we've covered today.

John: i like your "Sunday Morning" solo, and the rest were good as well, do try to learn the other songs. keyboard fill-ins will definitely make the song sound nicer

i'll probably rate this session 6.5/10?

okay okay, after watching the video John recorded. hmm, Hysteria lack the CRUNCH and PUNCH, we have to work on that really, and i need to watch my pitch! haha. plus, john please learn HYSTERIA for kbs!

Saturday's practice was good, just that my hands burned... Hysteria is crazy. I liked last Saturday's practice, and personally I thought that this particular practice has been one of the best things done.

Somethings to talk about though is firstly:
1)Can we do our homework before we reach the place? No "cannot remembers" and "I have to check". Else I'll check you in. Ha..

2)We need to bring tuners and needed wires, as well as pedals, sticks etc... We won't want to depend on the studio for equipment. I know, I'm supposed to bring a bass but my bass neck warped. I don't have the money to fix it yet. But once I get my pay from my work I'll repair it.

3)Get everything ready beforehand. We plan what we're going to do for which songs, and we can set up things fast. Like say, if I need to play keyboards, I'll set up keyboards first before everything starts, so that when we proceed to the next song, no time is wasted in starting up and fixing the keyboard...

4)Songs must be on beat! When we start, someone has to cue us in to come in TOGETHER. It is very important that we are tight. We must START TOGETHER and END TOGETHER. No more anyhow come in hor!

5)Lets learn to listen more than play.

6)Drummer, get a drum metronome for yourself. I heard that some of the drum metronomes are not reliable...so do check that out. By the way, drummer, your drumming was good. No holding back! weet!

7)I need to go and sleep. Good night all.

let me update you guys about what happened last saturday on our most recent session

my guitar got somehow or another drowned out by the drums although everybody said that my amp was blasting too loud at first i was going on a 6 while a 5 on my pedal sooooo yup but i increased it to a double 6 in the end

dan felt that guy should sing guy song instead of girl singing guy song but then saosin voice so highhhhhhhhhh~~~~~~ anyone cares to attempt the song?
personally i felt it was quite good

alright, i'll start off by commenting about how we're progressing with the aid of the last jamming session we had.

And so we jammed yesterday, we were supposed to do 8 songs but we ended up doing 7 in 2 hrs...hmm hysteria seems out of place cuz of no nice starting bass, its a bass song afterall but i guess that we might be throwing it out soon enough

4 old songs we did was good,we managed to cover everybody's fool once again perfectly, time is running out is however one of the best muse songs we're covering during the session. tourniquet's bridge is as well finally perfected with the help of daniel to count the timing and to co-ordinate the guitar and drums together, make a note that if we ever plan to perform that song, we have got to work and practise on the bridge. PLEASE watch our timings (: feeling good was not bad, the solo was better than the last session (:

we can get two of the vines songs out of the list, it was well done and yes we have got to fuck the world more (:as for polygraph, right now! it sounded rather plain, but doing an acoustic version would be good (:

Now feedbacks on each of us

Nicole - You did your homework exactly as we told you to, comparing it to the previous session. The beats are becoming much more solid and more technical. The sessions are being brough to new heights, however, it's important to watch out the timings.As for technicality goes up chances are that the timing will as well go down,that's just a friendly reminder alright? (: you're doing a wonderful job!

Grace - Well done from the power house vox (: didn't choke on any sweets this time, but just watch out for the keyboards and please do not forget your part! it's difficult to play and sing at the same time, but just try your best (: practise makes perfect (:

Daniel - Nice bass licks but bring your own fender jazz bass the next time, your bass sounds so much better than the studio's bass (: Practise hysteria once again, and if you can't do it without the effects we will have to scrap it out. Yet again, you're the crazy and high one during the session bouncing around especially for the last song, but personally, i think that the last song that wrapped up the session was the tightest!

Good job this time people, but i believe we can do much better during the next session!

Anyway, I felt that i didn't bring out the sound to its biggest potential, and although dan said its just minor detail, i'm not very happy with the amplifer not bringing out the sound that i want, that's how they freaking make money! making the guitarist figure out the tone they want for hours before they actually start! present pedals won't work :( sigh! ah well.

Reminder: Learn your taking back sunday songs next session on friday, work hard next session and we will post the latest update regarding the new jamming list by tomorrow, so you guys will have at least 5 days to learn up 4 songs.For your information, taking back sunday is in Flat half step down, so daniel please keep it in mind, drop your bass before you reach the studio! changes in band structure and direction

ok guys heres the latest update regarding our band
cuz of recent requests to start auditioning for gigs and everything, why dont we just get serious now and start practising like crazy first? instead of working to the top like some other bands that keep going for gigs and still sucking in them, why dont we get ourselves to THAT particular standard that we think is ripe for perfoming first. Instead of after gigging and then everyone saying oh this band is not bad not bad at all good but not excellent dont you guys think its better for them to say omg this band fucking rocks?

so before we start gigging, some things have to be done first (: IMHO, the band is alrdy quite good, performing standards good but not fucking good

1) if possible, block booking fourtones every fri at a particular timeslot would be good as not only we get our jamming session routinized, the ppl at fourtones will also recognise us and we may get recognition from the guys there ppl might even come every fri just to see us (: its like a house band haha only its a hmmm studio band?

2) widening our genre scope would be a great way to see what we can cover and what we cant, personally punk is outta of the qn, haha, so is techno lol *note failed attempt at anything for you shudders* so as dan suggested, we can open our scopes and try funk or even jazz soon. oh if anyone has a really good song in mind but is not emo, just add the song into the wish playlist first, then we can try it out also instead of just having someone fix up the playlist everytime. we are a band we do the playlist together (:

3) make sure everyone does their hw beforehand, practise until perfect at home first, the playlist will be posted up at least 7 days before jamming sessions so there should be no excuses that not enough time to learn each playlist. most playlists range from 6-8 songs which is only 1/2 hr, so 2 hrs should be enough to learn up new songs. we are all doing great here alrdy but its just a friendly reminder

4) another thing is the addition of audience. audiences can be such distractions so what i propose is that when we are trying out new songs, we have no audiences. in that particular session with no audiences, we get our songs done, perfect them, any qns or improvements regarding the songs just keep shooting, there is no perfection if there is no correction. that session would be more of a fun session or practise session. then the next session when everything is done up, we ask a couple of ppl along so that they can criticise our playing and everything, that is more of a bombardment session to see where else did we miss out on improvisation and tightness of performance. that would be more of a performance for the audience to gauge where we stand

5) improvisations in songs are greatly welcomed, such as change in bass riffs or change in drum beats even the way the song is sung, now instead of covering blindly, we can try to make the songs ours by improving on the ways which we want to. HOWEVER, pls dont change it until it sounds like i dont know what lol i have came across some bands that loveeeeeeee improvisations and they improvise until it is tooo improvised alrdy ha lol

6) finally when we reach that standard of fully unleashing our potentials, we should be able to perform, by right if we continue what we are doing now, and if we start jamming really frequently after the main exams, which is beginning oct. we should be really good by the end of the year, so next year would be a really good year to start performing and gaining recognition alrdy. so lets set a deadline so that everything will be nicer and funner hee. by year end, we should be really tight together as a band (:

Okay, here's an introduction of our band :)

It started when me(grace) and nicole(nix) decided to form a band with encouragement of my ex-guitar teacher, i decided to give it a try on a forum-web based advertisement site looking for musicians.

that's where i found our current lead guitarist and bassist, benjamin and daniel respectively.

On the 9th of september(we finally met up with each other), the first session at Beats Merchant i deemed that the band was rather good and had a potential to rise because the coordination was there from the start, it was rather difficult to get everyone's timing together especially if its the very first time but we did it (:

after a few months of slack, we picked everything up where we left off and started looking for a new studio, a place where we can call home, at least a home to make music. we found this studio at kallang but then we didnt like the place either, compared to the 1st session, we noted out the improvements that needed to be taken and parts of the songs which needed to be improved to be perfected, and then we continued our search for a new studio.

then we located this studio at clarke quay which was by far the best studio anyone of us have ever seen lol 200w marshall amp and other good stuff (according to our dear guitarist,benj.) we had the best session that we ever had and we decided to call that place our official jamming studio. we also decided to jam more regularly now as 3 times in a year is definitely not enough although surprisingly we didnt lose any of our tempo.

We were at first called ''Illustrated Intentions" but we realised that the name was too long for people to remember so then after a couple brainstorming sessions we managed to settle for Poetic License. HOWEVER, after awhile we decided that the name is soooo stupid, thats why we struck it out and changed it to our current one, Lyrical Reverly ( we are fickle minded ppl aint we?)

currently we've covered quite a number of songs from kelly clarkson to evanescence to muse.
We plan to explore our range in the near future so that we do not limit ourselves to just anyone genre for music depends on our mood and whatever we feel like jamming we do it since there are no restrictions or boundaries to the music that we create.
